Ezekiel 33 launched Whanau Day Out at the Kelston Community Centre in March 2005. This day was very successful with approx 3,500 people attending and 22 local Sponsors, helping to bring this day “Free” to the community. The morning opened with a Powhiri by Kapa Haka group; Te Roopu Te Toka Miere of Honey In The Rock Ministries. A children’s puppet show and magic show followed by 6 primary schools competing in the Waitakere Primary Schools Kapa Haka competitions. The afternoon stage hosted Family entertainment: Rock N Roll dancers and Youth Hip Hop Battles led by local street Hip Hop Artists: Faith City Rockers. Other Local performances by : YTDC, and Kings Kids. The Kelston site boasted 8 food stalls, 10 craft stalls and 5 community stalls with a huge children section of: MacDonald’s Farm Yard, Face Painting, Clowns, Stilt Walkers, Merry Go Round, Bouncy Castle, Train Rides and rides on the West City Holden Fire Engine.
Ezekiel 33 Trust also had the support of Flava 96.1 who turned up with their Humma Van and artist “Kaylee”.
We also ran a “Weird Dress Competition”, just to see if anyone took the challenge and true to form, we had 2 very wonderfully weird girls turn up looking absolutely Weird and wonderful. They won “Body Shop Makeovers” kindly sponsored by “Body Shop” New Lynn.
With all Ezekiel 33 events, we believe in catering for the youth and our Youth Section of Whanau Day was not only on the stage. Ezekiel 33 put on a 20 board Bomb Art Competition led my local street artists: Phats1 and Diva aka Charles and Janine Williams. The first prize of this event was a BMX bike Proudly Sponsorsed by: Bike Barn, New Lynn.
We would like to acknowledge and thank all our wonderful sponsors who kindly assisted financially and in donated products. |
